The computer was trying to turn on the whole time because you pressed the power button before but did not turn on yet because it did not have enough charge. When you replace a battery you need to let the system charge the battery fully then you need to drain it fully and do a SMC reset. It will work if i re-plug in the battery or not before plugin the power in but i MUST unplug the battery for a few seconds first then plug in the power adapter. I would suggest you unplug your battery leave it for few minutes check any cables around take off the ribbon cable put it back on.
